Jack announced this evening ............ ''I've shaved it off! Now, not to put too fine a point on it I was slightly startled at this sudden burst of information for a couple of reasons - (a) because communication between my once very chatty boy has become a series of grunts, most of which I can't understand as he now speaks'Teenage'eese' and secondly because I had absolutely no idea what on earth he was referring to when he referred to 'it'!! ''It?'' I asked, trying to keep calm.
''Yes, my moustache!" he said rather indignantly, and with just a smattering of sarcasm (... because after all how could I ask such a bloody stupid question!) ''What moustache?'' I replied with an equal amount of sarcasm although I did refrain from letting him see the creases at the corner of my mouth as I tried REALLY hard not to burst out laughing .... at this point my husband's voice growled from the corner of the room ''what with?'' ....... ''with YOUR electric razor of course, I dont want to cut myself'' .... I have tried to explain to him that he really doesn't look like a member of the mafia with the bumfluff that is trying to grow on his top lip (... correction WAS trying to grow!) ... and I have a husband who is now upstairs trying to steralise his electric shaver in case he 'catches' acne ..... aren't sons the greatest?

I know mine is :)

I used to wonder what Nanan, my grandmother, meant when she said 'Time flies by' ... as I get older I understand completely. Over the past 6 months I have watched my son grow from a young boy into an adolescent. Physically he has changed. His face is now longer and more angular; gone are the 'little boy' looks - 'I've got spots' are now the common daily wail and there is a hint of a dark shadow on his top lip. I woke up one morning to find him talking to me in a deep voice that I did not recognise - gone are the soft tones of a young boy. He has grown 4 inches in height and his shoe size has gone from a 6 to a 9. Haircuts no longer cosist of my using the clippers with a No.2 to zip quickly around his head - I fight to get the scissors close enough to take 0.5mm off of the fringe so that I can see his eyes! WWIII is going to break out in 2 weeks time because a good couple of inches is coming off all over before he starts the new school year! In line with being a true teenager he would like to sleep or lounge about in bed until midday if he was left to his own devices (.. which he rarely is lol) and I see the similarities between his occasional grunting and the characters in the movie 'Kev & Perry' - those who have see the film AND have teenage boys will know exactly what I mean :)

For all the changes, he is growing into a wonderfully charming young man with a wicked sense of humour - time is certainly flying by!

LADYBIRD, LADYBIRD FLY AWAY HOME!

Yesterday school, here in the UK, ended for the 6 weeks Summer holidays - six glorious weeks of not having to get up at the crack of dawn to go to work and coming home exhausted and just wanting to flop! On Saturday we are off to Devon for our regular week away in Westward Ho! Jack loves the surfing there and I am crossing fingers that the weather will be fine. This week has been baking hot so the law of sod would decree that next week it will rain - oh well, at least it will be a change of scenery :) Anyway, to get back to the reason I logged in tonight - arent these the cutest little ladybirds lol Find them in my store at DIGITALS at get 25% off the price if you hurry!!

.. of course as I was a teenager in the 70's, for me that era was 'the best'. Living where I did in Africa meant that there were no 'malls' (.. actually there were no posh shops at all lol) but a plain white T-shirt, half a dozen marbles or bottle caps, a ball of string, two or three tins of different coloured dyes and a large saucepan gave great opportunities for brightly coloured tie'n'dye creations!!

I hope you will like this little gift of a 12x12 tie'n'dye paper together with the co-ordinating bow.

Alan Johnston and I grew up together in Kenya. Our families go back a long way - my mother and his father have known each other since they were at school many many years ago. Six weeks ago, Alan was kidnapped in Gaza and it is impossible to imagine how worrying this is for his family. Nothing has been heard of him since he was taken. Easter has been and gone and I have eaten way too much of everything again! My two week break from working at school is half-way through now and I have to hold my hands up and admit to having done not very much this past week - actually, thats not quite true - I have been paper scrapping and trying to use up some of the rather large stash that takes up so much room in the house. This past week I have complete 8 layouts and it has been very therapeutic! There's nothing quite like cutting and sticking to make you relax :)

I have also updated the Blog to a new template and am still in the process of trying to sort all the links out. In the next week I will re-link all the freebies again - including all those that were out of date and a new new ones - so keep your eyes open.

The past three days here in England have been glorious! Having had nothing but grey, rainy days for what seems like weeks, Spring has peeped her head out and said'hello'. The daffodils are beginning to bud, crocuses carpet the grassy areas along the roads and at last nature is throwing a bit of colour back into the landscape again. I really do miss colour when it's winter - crispy cold days with bright blue skies would be good but they seem to have been few and far between this year.

I was taking part in a forum chat the other day and someone asked the question 'what was the one thing you really wanted to learn to create when you first started digiscrapping?'.

Everyone taking part in the chat had a different answer - I had to think for quite a while because I wanted to learn everything all at once! The one thing that I loved was the effect of torn edges - it's something I love using in paper scrapping (...when I get time to sit and do it) and I searched high and low for a tutorial that gave a realistic look. Now, thanks to Atomic Cupcake and their wonderful actions, it's made the process so much easier!

......... I had a great 50th birthday! Actually, it was more like a 'birthweek' as my family had organised all kinds of little surprises and treats for me along the way. Reaching the 'middle' mark in life has spurred me on to realising that I need to get on with my scrapbooking. I make layouts here and there but I never actually get around to sticking to a theme or completing a scrapbook - so that is my new goal - my next problem, having made the decision, was 'where do I start' - I decided to start with 'Me' - now all I have to do is decide how and what to put in it! I am off to spend some dosh on Angie Pedersen's 'Book of Me' to give me some inspiration (... actually I might just buy all of her books whilst I am there lol). ............. OVER THE HILL

Tomorrow I will be, my husband assures me, 'over the hill' - it is my 50th birthday. "Which hill is that dear?" I ask with a slight hint of sarcasm in my voice - "You know! The hill that I reached two years ago, when you and my sister took great delight in winding me up unmercilessly about having reached an age when I could go on 'over 50' holidays with SAGA along with the endless bottles of vitamins for the over 50' age group", he replied. I am hoping that as he is slightly more mature than I, with less of the childish sense of humour that I have, I wont have to spend the whole day putting up with the '.....aaaaah you're middle aged' related comments - but I somehow doubt it lol

'Over the Hill' seemed the right name for my newest product which will be in the store at Digitals from Monday 12th February - happy scrapping!

...... in fact a long while since my last post. No reasons in particular, just something to do with the cold and greyness and lack of colour at this time of year I guess - however, February brings with it a milestone in my life - I turn 50! Never thought of myself as 'middle aged' so in amongst all those feelings of 'omg am I THAT old!' I have decided that it's time to make changes - stop procrastinating and get on with DOING instead of just putting things off - like losing weight, changing direction in my work life ( ... amongst others).

I haven't been around much the past couple of weeks. I am not the world's most prolific BLOGGER - partly because I always mean to get here to write something but also partly because I hate BLOGS that are full of pointless, meaningless drivel - you know the kind I mean? Where the author just writes something full of nothing for the sake of having a paragraph up each day? It's been a long week at work, thank goodness school breaks for Christmas holidays in 3 weeks time. I had to go on a training course yesterday - the 40 mile drive was nice, through pretty countryside and I have been to this place before. Yesterday however I missed the turnoff and ended up in the next town. I figured the quickest way was to find the train station and ask a cab driver. If by any remote chance Mr Cab Driver of Wareham, Dorset you are an avid digi scrapper and happen upon my BLOG - shame on you!!!!!! I can hear you and your big hairy armpitted mates laughing yourselves silly having sent me on my way IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!!!!! 10 minutes later, when I found myself in the middle of Wareham Forest and I should have been nowhere near there, I figured out it was probably more sensible to use my cell phone and call the school where I was meant to be training and ask them for directions So, to all cab drivers in Wareham may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your car seats and cause you and your bits much discomfort LOL

WHAT A WEEK!

I had one of those weeks! I don't know where the time has gone but suddenly it's Friday evening and when I look back I got absolutely nothing done over the past 5 days. Well, that's not quite true - what I mean is that I got nothing done that I WANTED to do. I now sell my products on two sites and am still trying to get some kind of routine set up (... I need routine because menopausal brain cells are notoriously lacking in any kind of co-ordination, long term memory function and organisational abilities!) I need to send out ADs, make blinkies, update this BLOG, create new products, do freebies, comment in the galleries and forums - I feel a brainfreeze coming on :o))

Here, in England, it's Bonfire Night - and it's noisy! Every dog in England is barking like crazy I should think because of all the fireworks!

Guy Fawkes, also known as Guido Fawkes, was an English soldier and member of a group of Roman Catholics who, on 5th November 1605, decided they would try and assassinate the Protestant Kings James I and all the members of the Houses of Parliament by blowing up Westminster Palace.

Before he was able to do this the plan was found out and following a severe interrogation involving the use of torture and a trial Guy Fawkes and his conspirators were executed for treason and attempted murder.

Guy Fawkes' failure is remembered with Guy Fawkes Night (also known as Bonfire Night) November 5th each year ( .... although every juvenile delinquent in the country will delight in disturbing their local neighbourhoods for the next 2 or 3 weeks by letting off bangers!)

What is it with stores at this time of year? The first Christmas cards were on the shelves 3 weeks ago! I'm surprised no budding entrepreneur hasnt opened a chain of all singing, all dancing, come and get your Easter Eggs at Christmas and your tree baubles in July! I don't want to hear the tuneful shrief of 'fa lala lala' and the smell of hot mince pies this early - by the time Christmas week arrives all the excitement has gone - what happened to the build up to December 25th?

Anyone who lives in the UK will know what I mean when I say to you all, please forgive me I have been watching too many episodes of 'Grumpy Old Women' lol.

Having got that off my chest - here's my Christmas Cheer kit, up in the store at Digitals LOL

I love Christmas time! I'm more excited than my 13 year old sometimes lol .... Christmas Day in Kenya was spent on the beach, swimming and clambering around on the coral reef looking for shells, sea urchins and starfish. Nowadays, Christmas days are cold (and very often wet) but the excitement still remains ...... this frame is from my new Christmas Cheer kit that will be up in the store at Digitals in the next few days. SPOOKY SEASON .......

My son and I are addicted to a programme here in the UK called 'Most Haunted'. During our Summer holiday we visited Bodmin Gaol, an old 17thC prison where the Most Haunted team had filmed one of their episodes. My DH was holding the camera and Jack was standing in front of him - bear in mind that this old prison is just as it was back when it was last used in the early 1900s - dirty, dark, dingy and parts of it completely derelict - I saw Jack jump and grab his neck - he thought a ghost had touched him - it was only the lens cap brushing against him LOL

Anyhow, to get to my original point of this post - here's my Hallow'een kit - available in the Digitals store -

It's A Dog's Life ......

It's going to be a long road to recovery for this little pooch! When the cat flap was left unlocked by mistake 3 weeks ago he snuck out and was hit by a car. His pelvis was broken in two places (now repaired with a metal plate) and his leg has three breaks in it. The operation to pin his leg can't take place for a while because of other complications (which I wont go into because I dont want to upset any queasy stomachs lol). We visit the vet every day where Rambo is sedated to have his dressings changed. The nurses have grown very fond of this little mutt and have started decorating his bandages - it's the small things people do that matter :o))

A couple of years ago, during our annual Summer visit to Devon, we visited a honey farm in the small village of South Molton. This year, we decided to go back and have a closer look - the farmer who owns the honey farm has designed it so that the hives are inside glass boxes that you can walk around. Press a button and a door opens to allow you to look inside the hive and see just what goes on - it was fascinating - the gift shop was pretty cool too and the honey was mmmmmmm delicious! This layout is made with my Colourways Saffron kit (previewed below).

COMPUTER FIASCO UPDATE ....

I'm back from holiday and back at work and still havent managed to get my computer sorted out :o( I have my laptop connected to the net now and hope to get my freebies back up and running for you in the next couple of days. Thanks to those who have left nice comments - it is much appreciated :o))

... that my computer is well and truly locked up right now with some error message that popped up after I had reformatted my HD. Every solution I have found online hasnt worked yet and as I am away on holiday for a week next week I wont have time to get it to the shop until I get back - the remaining freebies for this kit will get sent out once I am back up and running as I cannot access it right now.

I telephoned the number on the system restore disc (after spending all morning trying to sort the problem out myself) only to be told that the call would cost me 1.20 Sterling a minute - and THEN when they answered the phone having had me hold listening to muzak for 25 minutes the guy was so ill mannered. My mistake I guess was asking him if he was born rude or if not how many years it had taken him to cultivate such an offensive, aggravating attitude - he hung up on me lol

My son Jack has gone through his fair share of grieving for pets who have died over the past 3 months. First the two cats (who had lived to the grand age of 20!) and then Jessica our lovely bunny. However, he and his best buddy are joined at the hip and are never too far away from one another. I caught this photo at the weekend and thought it was too cute (ooops, better not let him see my BLOG - cute is not a word a 13 year old boy would like to be described aslol)

When Jack was little he always wanted a rabbit. I always wondered why people kept rabbits as pets - after all they just sat in little wooden hutches, waiting to be fed and doing not much else. Jessica taught me how wrong I was. She joined our family on Jack's 6th birthday. She was so tiny, and fluffy and pretty - someone told me that unless rabbits are handled fairly regularly they are not very friendly so I made sure that Jessie was taken out of her hutch several times during the day.

Our garden is safe and secure and as she grew bigger she was able to run free during the day, only going into her hutch at night to be safe from any cats or foxes that might be snooping around. She teased the two cats and ran rings around them constantly, so much so that they used to climb up on anything high enough in the garden to get away from her (I don't think they realised that cats usually kill rabbits and Jessie certainly didn't know that rule!!)

Jess was Jack's responsibility and he looked after her very well. Fortunately Trevor works for a fruit and vegetable wholesalers so she had nothing but the best and parsley and apples seemed to be her favourite 'in-house' food. However, nothing compared to the joy that she had trying to eat flowers in the garden faster than I could plant them and spring and summer every year was a game between the two of us when I swear I could almost see the glint in her eye as she scampered off from the daisies and as soon as my back was turned she would pop back out and start nibbling again.

We lost Jessie this past weekend - she had to be put to sleep. We will all miss her so much - thank you Jess for teaching me that bunnies do have personalities!
